Profile and history of the Gallery

Founded 2000 as Galerie sphn (later Galerie Herrmann & Wagner) at Koppenplatz, the gallery inaugurated with an installation of over 200 glass paintings by Peter Dreher from his internationally known series „Day by Day Good Day“. For many years the gallery focused on Contemporary Finnish Photography and among the first solo presentations in Germany were shows by Miklos Gaál, Ola Kolehmainen, Niko Luoma, Jyrki Parantainen or Santeri Tuori. Furthermore an Artist-in-Residence-Programme existed for about 4 years to give artists the chance to get in touch with Berlin´s vibrant art scene by this timne as well as a studio space for students to make first exhibition experience. Many inter- national art fair participations followed (Art Cologne, Art Brussels, ARCO, Arte Fiera Bologna in Europe, KIAF in Asia and Next Chicago or Photo Miami in the US). With its breakup of partnership the gallery renamed to “Wagner + Partner” and moved to historic Karl-Marx-Allee in 2008.

Between 2008 and 2012 Wagner + Partner refocused on Contemporary Painting and established regular Artist Talks during the exhibitions. New represented artists were Eckart Hahn or Claas Gutsche. For Peter Dreher´s 80th birthday the gallery arranged the important show “Die Kleeblume”, a painting installation of 80 parts which later was acquired by the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe. The gallery concentrated on art fairs in Europe during this period (Viennafair, Preview or Art Karlsruhe).

With its moving to the historic office space of former East German States Airline “Interflug” at Strausberger Platz some high caliber solo and thematic group shows could take place during 2013 and 2017. Artist talks were accompanying these interesting shows. The gallery stretched out for new art fairs such as SP Arte Sao Paulo, Unseen Amsterdam or Art Rotterdam and did regular fairs in Miami and New York (Pulse) to serve its international clientele.

Since 2018 Wagner + Partner is back in the historic part of Berlin (Mitte), the so called “Scheunenviertel” at Koppenplatz.
