Pillars of Home

The series consists of ninety-eight images of balancing sculptures staged within 30 minutes. This duration is a symbolic metaphor for the time frame a young artist being a mother can spare for her own preoccupation while raising a baby. As the home is the center of the world during this period, the artist body as well as everyday life items provide the material the sculptures are made of. Complementary to the aspects of composition the sculptures reflect on life as a juggling act as well as on female identy.

The floor-to-ceiling constructions relay on their own inner stability while being framed only by the floor and the ceiling. The colorful hand-built pillars vary in size and complexity, depending on their territory. As the objects are being piled up, they become a coherent entity, but their delicate arrangement and balancing structure makes them vulnerable as they can be destroyed at any moment.

Csilla Klenyánszki

*1986, Budapest, Ungarn

Csilla Klenyánszki’s performative interactions can be seen as a personal research for balance. A constant attraction to physical and mental tension characterizes her work. The projects play with the borders of nonsense; something that looks foolish at first, always finds its right place at the end. The nature of the work is highly playful and experimental, but the approach is rather analytic. Her current practice focuses on gender and time, while her artistic method balances between installation- and a simplified version of performance art, in combination with photography and video. She lives and works in Amsterdam, NL.
